Characteristics of Service
General: All of the characteristics of service which may be designated in any part of the territory served by the Company are listed and described below, together with statements of the conditions under which they will be designated. Frequencies and voltages shown are approximate.
The Company has adopted as its standard, the three phase, four wire, alternating current system of distribution, at approximately 50 cycles and 400 volts between phases and 230 volts between phase and neutral.
In every case, the Customer should consult the Company as to the characteristics of service to be supplied to the Customer, before purchasing electrical equipment for any new installation or for additions to or replacements of existing installations or before moving electrical equipment to a new address.
Standard Service: Standard service is a service derived directly from the standard system of distribution and comprises:
Secondary Distribution – single phase, two wire, 230 volt service; Or
Secondary Distribution – three phase, four wire, 400/230 volt service; Or
Primary Distribution – Three wire, three wire, 11000 volt service
Low tension service may be designated by the Company for service when warranted by the magnitude or location of the load, or other physical conditions, or when it would result in the least cost to the Company.
High tension service may be designated by the Company for service when warranted by the magnitude or location of the load, or other physical conditions, or when it would result in the least cost to the Company.
High tension service will not be supplied to Customers for whom the Company designates secondary service from the Company's secondary mains.
Continuity of Service
The Company will endeavor to provide continuous service but does not guarantee an uninterrupted or undisturbed supply of electric service.
Curtailment or Interruption of Supply
Without notice, the Company may curtail or interrupt service to any or all of its customers when in its judgment such curtailment or interruption will tend to prevent or alleviate a threat to the integrity of its power supply. In such event the judgment of the Company will be deemed conclusive on all parties involved. The selection by the Company of the customers to be curtailed or interrupted will also be conclusive on all parties concerned. Any curtailment or interruption of supply will not relieve the customer’s obligations to the Company.
Changes in Customer's Power Requirements
The capacity of the Company's facilities supplying service to an individual Customer is designed to provide adequate service to the installation existing at the time service was connected so that any material increase in load may result in poor quality of service, interruption of service or damage to the Company's facilities. The Customer shall give the Company reasonable advance notice of intention materially to increase the Customer's load so that adequate facilities may be provided. This is necessary to enable the Company to furnish safe and adequate service.
Before installing motors or miscellaneous apparatus, the Customer shall consult the Company regarding the characteristics of the service to be supplied and the manner in which the equipment may be connected. It is important that the characteristics of motors, motor starting equipment, and miscellaneous apparatus, such as welders, heaters and ranges, particularly in the matter of inrush currents, shall be such as not to impair the quality of service rendered by the Company to any of its Customers.
Safety of Installation
The Company shall not be required to supply electric service until the customer's installation shall has been approved by the Government Electrical Inspectorate (GEI); and the Company further reserves the right to withhold its service, or discontinue its service, whenever such installation or part thereof is deemed by the Company to be unsafe, inadequate or unsuitable for receiving the Company's service or to interfere with or impair the continuity or quality of the Company's service to the Customer or to others.
