Generation

Mission - To produce a continuous supply of electricity that would satisfy the consumers’ energy demand on all power systems throughout the state in the most cost effective and efficient manner without critically damaging the environment.

The Department operates and maintains all of the generating units that are housed at two diesel Power Stations and three Hydro Power Stations on mainland, St. Vincent. The other four diesel stations are located in the Grenadines islands of Bequia, Canouan, Mayreau and Union Island. A small amount of solar energy is generated at the Cane Hall Engineering Complex and the Lowmans Bay, Union Island, Mayreau and Union Island Stations. The Generation Department also provides electrical maintenance function for all of VINLEC’s buildings and maintains VINLEC’s Land Mobile Radio communication network.

The Generation Department has the largest number of employees in the Company. The two main functions carried out in the department are Operations and Maintenance. Given the complexity of the department, it has been divided into four functional areas, namely Grenadines, Lowmans Bay, Cane Hall and Hydro Stations and Protection and Automation Section.
